It was half-term last week and we made the most of it!
With an exciting program to keep our youngest patrons entertained, there was something for everyone and much fun to be had.
Take a look at what we got up to!
Saturday 22nd October – Halloween Craft
Led by Wendy, the children got into the Halloween spirit by making their own pumpkin masks. We captured a picture with the kids and their masterpieces – aren’t they spooktacular?
Tuesday 25th October – Digilab
Digilab is a gateway to technology! And if I had to describe it in one word, it would be ‘cool’.
Exploring 3D doodling, virtual reality experiences and Anki Overdrive, an artificial intelligence racing car, Digilab was a fascinating experience for all. A stand out memory is definitely hooking bananas up with wires and being able to play them like a keyboard!
Wednesday 26th October – Canela Fina! Presents Mexican Halloween
We love Canela Fina – and they were back with a very special interactive session.
Presented in both Spanish and English, we were treated to an engaging storytelling session celebrating Mexican Halloween. We learned catchy songs, danced around the library and shared some great stories.
It was a lovely insight into how the traditional festival is celebrated in Mexico.
Thursday 27th October – William Shakespeare and Deep in the Jungle
Thursday was a busy day!
William Shakespeare presented by Freshwater Theatre Company was mesmerising.
The children were encouraged to discover more about Shakespeare’s life and his works, one play they explored was Romeo and Juliet. The background music really helped to set the tone and the entire session had a dreamlike feeling to it. Though quite young, the children seemed to know a fair bit and were incredibly receptive.
‘Deep in the Jungle’ was a fun afternoon of storytelling and we had a very responsive audience!
At times, I was reminded of a Christmas panto as the children would enthusiastically respond to Emily’s directions. Even I caught myself cheering along! A fond memory is the little boy who wanted to take over the session and read to us instead! Maybe next time?
Friday 28th October – Carlo and the Really Friendly Librarian
Led by Jessica Spanyol, we joined Carlo the giraffe as he made his very first visit to the library!
Carlo was afraid of Mrs. Chinca, the librarian (we’re not that scary). So we joined together to encourage him and he was soon able to overcome it! The session concluded with a great craft session where the children were able to design their own characters!
Half-term is over but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop!
We run activities throughout the term and more information can be found on our website: www.rbkc.gov.uk/libraries
