Last week was the last week of the school summer holidays and Chelsea and Brompton Libraries wanted to go out on a creative high so we invited James Parsons, of the Crazy Comic Club, to do two illustration workshops in one day, Chelsea in the morning and Brompton in the afternoon.

We had a good response from the kids with ages ranging from 4 to 11 years old. They made a 3D pop-up card featuring characters from Roald Dahl books (and others!) then made a fridge magnet or three. Characters from Minecraft seemed to be very popular as well.
Several parents stayed to help the kids and, at Brompton, our Saturday Storyland volunteer, Lisa, came along out of interest and to lend a hand. Everyone was really engaged and having a great time making something they could show off at home.

James coped admirably with the large age range and, following really positive feedback from the children and parents/carers, I will be happy to invite him back for more workshops!
This year’s Roald Dahl-themed Summer Reading Challenge made it easy to find craft activities based on his books and these workshops were the icing on the cake for us!
Brompton Library’s Summer Reading Challenge Celebration Party is on Saturday 17 September, 2 to 3.30pm: join us for drinks, party food, games and celebrations!
