Celebrating 150 years of the London Mathematical Society.
As part of the Celebration of Science Festival at The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Kensington Central Library is showing an exhibition examining the work of Sydney Chapman, the mathematician and geophysicist who worked on stochastic processes, the kinetic theory of gases, the magnetosphere and photo chemical processes that give rise to the ozone layer. His direct influence spanned nearly the entire 20th century.
He was instrumental in shaping the Department of Mathematics at nearby Imperial College, London, into the world-leading research institute that it is today.
This exhibition has been curated by the London Mathematical Society to celebrate Chapman’s ground-breaking contributions to science.
The exhibition runs from Saturday 3rd to Saturday 24th October during library opening hours.
